Foodie Review: A Taste of Mediterranean Fusion Cuisine at Jack’s Joint

image

Hello dearies!

Located at the heart of Manila is a newly opened restaurant that serves Mediterranean fusion dishes called Jack’s Joint. The restaurant is owned by a Filipino couple and a Turkish Chef, Chef Ibrahim.

The place can accommodate an approximate of 25 to 30 persons. The ambiance is cozy. I love the junk-inspired interior especially the mason jars that were used as lamps, I find it very unique. They cater students, office workers who are looking for good food after work and people living nearby who want to relax. They serve alcoholic beverages but on a later time. Delivery service is also available but only within the area. Wifi signal is strong. Me and my fellow bloggers tried almost everything in their menu.

image Mason jars used as lamps. So cool. 😀

image

image

Here are the dishes that we tried:

image

Special Kebab Php 180. Their special kebab consists of grilled beef and chicken meat served with rice, onions, tomatoes and long green pepper. The meat has a kick of spice that is not overpowering. It is best to eat with their special garlic yogurt sauce. I like the grilled chicken over beef because it is more tender and flavourful.

image Chicken Kebab Php 180. What I like about their kebab is it is soft and juicy. Every bite of the meat you will taste how savory the dish is.

image

Chicken Steak Php 130. I like the balance of spiciness of this dish. The chicken meat is well done and juicy.

image Chicken Pirzola Php 130. This dish creates a burst of flavour. It has a sweet and spicy taste which I like. The meat is also tender and moist.

image Shawarma Rice Php 95. Their shawarma is thinly sliced which makes it easy to munch. It tasted sweet and yet spicy.

image Shawarma Pizza Php 285. It is my first time to see and taste a shawarma flavored pizza. The garlic yogurt sauce mixed with a little hot sauce makes this dish a bomb.

image Four Cheese Pizza Php 280. This dish is my favorite. The mix of creamy and salty taste makes this dish a winner.

image Burger Half Pounder with Cheese Php 120. Their burgers are cooked using lava rocks that’s why it has a distinct grilled flavor which I love. It makes the real flavour of the meat comes out. I also love their buns. I even asked the owner to sell them. 🙂

image Yogurt Shake Php 50. I love the sweet and yet tangy taste of this drink. Perfect drink to cleanse your palate.

Over-all I will give Jack’s Joint a 3.5/5. I will definitely go back to try their other dishes. Thank you again Elaine Taningco of Zomato Philippines for inviting me.

Foodie Review: Something New Xilaimen Seafood Restaurant

image

Hello dearies!

Last June 29, 2015, I was invited to be part of the Food Bloggers’ Night held at Xilaimen Seafood Restaurant in Robinson’s Magnolia.

Xilaimen Seafood Restaurant opened last June 19, 2015 and currently on soft opening status. Xilaimen is actually a sister company of King Bee (you can read my review here).

The word ‘Xilaimen’ means Happiness coming to the door. According to Ms. Andrea Ng, the Marketing Operations Manager of Xilaimen, they want to provide their customers the best meal and service that they could offer.

image

The restaurant is spacious and can accommodate up to 200 persons. Xilaimen also has two private function rooms for intimate family gatherings, events and meetings. Each function room can accommodate 12 guests.

image Ms. Andrea Ng.

The interior is quite similar to King Bee. They have these big and elegant Chinese inspired lamps. The yellow gold and red table-cloth adds more elegant vibe to the place.

image

image

image

They offer more fresh seafood dishes than King Bee. Customers can pick their choice of fresh seafood to be cooked. Aside from fresh seafood, they also offer exotic specialties like frog legs.

imageFresh King Fish.

imageOh hi Mr. Crabs!😄

image
Rock lobsters and more.

Here are the lavish dishes that we tried:

image Cold cuts combination Php 370. Basically a plate loaded with mouth-watering Chinese cold cuts. A mix of century egg, tofu, chicken and pork. The dish is served with three kinds of sauces. This dish serves as an appetizer.

image Mixed seafood with Polonchay soup Php 290. This ‘green soup’ reminds me of detox veggie drinks. It’s chunky and flavourful perfect to sip during chilly weather.

image Fried Lapu lapu fillet in egg white. Steamed Lapu lapu topped with scambled egg white. I find this dish a little bland though the fish meat is soft and juicy. It goes well with egg white.

image Lechon Macau Php 300. The meat is perfectly cooked. It’s crispy and yet juicy. You don’t need a sauce because it’s good to eat on its own.

image Pan fried prawns with salted egg yolk Php 390. Big juicy prawns pan-fried then served with rich sauce made from salted egg yolk. Yummers!

image Spicy frog legs Php 380. Surprisingly this dish is delicious. The frog meat is juicy and it tastes like chicken.

image Yang Chow fried rice Php 220. Their yang chow fried rice is one of the best that I’ve tried. It is packed with vegetables, meat and shrimps. You can actually eat this on its own.

image Elephant shell with broccoli in xo sauce. It was actually my first time to taste elephant shell. Elephant shell is a type of shelled seafood with long elephant tusk like body. The meat is sweet and savory. Broccoli is fresh and crisp. The xo sauce added a bit of spice in this dish.

image Green mango shake. Fresh green mango drink somewhat refreshes your taste buds after tasting all the sumptuous dishes.

image Saté fried crabs with sotanghon. Fresh crabs marinated in saté is sinfully good. This is actually my favorite among the dishes. The sweet crab meat blends well with the spicy saté sauce. Double thumbs up!

image Mixed fruit platter Php 280. A platter of various fruit selection: apple, pineapple, watermelon and ponkan. It’s simple and yet creative way to present fruits. ♡

I really enjoyed the food and I can’t wait to try their other dishes.

Foodie Review: Mouthwatering Asian Comfort Food at Fika

image

Hello dearies!

Last week I was invited by Zomato Philippines for another foodie meet-up. The foodie meet-up was held at Fika in Capitol Greenstreet Building in Quezon City. The name Fika is a Swedish word which means “coffee or tea break”. According to Mr. Mats Loo, Owner of Fika and Director of First Gourmet Academy, the restaurant is a project of the culinary school (First Gourmet Academy) which is also in the same building. Fika serves as a training ground for students to showcase the skills they learned from the academy. These students were properly guided by the academy’s experienced faculty in preparing the dishes.

image

Fika started out as a coffee shop then later transformed into a restaurant that serves asian comfort food. The restaurant can accommodate 36 to 40 guests. It has an ambiance that is cozy and calm. They have a nice veranda overlooking the pleasant view of Capitol Hills Golf Club.

image The relaxing view of Capitol Hills Golf Club.

image View of the scenic sunset while dining.

Me and my fellow Zomato foodies were able to try some of their bestsellers. Here are the dishes:

Appetizers:

image Filipino Pork Crackling. Made from oven roasted salted pork rind sticks served with vinegar dip. This dish is sinfully delicious. The pork rind sticks are super crunchy. Perfect to eat with beer on the side.

image Chinese Fire Cracker Shrimp. Spicy crispy fried shrimps wrapped in rice paper. Another beer-perfect dish. The shrimp is juicy and not that spicy.

image Dynamite. Made from long green chili and cheese wrapped in rice paper then deep-fried. This dish is literally “the bomb” spicy level is 4.5/5. I love that it’s oozing with cheese. Also goes well with beer.

image Cantonese Pork Siu Mai. Made from steamed minced pork dumplings drizzled with sesame oil served with soy sauce and chili oil sauce. I love pork dumplings. Their dumpling has an authentic Chinese taste. The meat is juicy and goes well with the sauce.

image Indonesian Chicken Satay. One of their bestsellers. Grilled seasoned chicken breast in cube skewers served with peanut sauce. The chicken meat is luscious. The peanut sauce goes well with chicken meat.

Salads and Soups:

image Japanese Crab stick and Mango Salad. Mixed lettuce, shredded crab stick and diced ripe mango served with wasabi vinaigrette dressing. The lettuce is fresh and crispy. The wasabi dressing creates a burst of flavor that is fresh, light and zesty.

image Japanese Shoyu Ramen. Made from own-made egg noodles with seafood, vegetables in a dashi broth seasoned with Japanese soy sauce. The soup/broth is made from scratch without any artificial flavorings.

Mains:

image Malaysian Fish Sambal. Crunchy deep fried fish fillet with chili and garlic sauce. A thin layer of sweet and sour sauce is applied on the fish before coating it with bread crumbs. This dish is their version of fish fillet but with a twist. I like how it was cooked, juicy and yet crispy.

image Korean Spicy Stir-Fried Squid. Squid sliced in thin strips then stir-fried in Korean chili bean paste. This dish is loaded with spiciness. Spicy level 5/5. If you like spicy dishes then this one is for you.

image Thai Chicken Curry in Peanut Sauce. Chicken and vegetables simmered in Thai curry paste cooked with coconut milk and peanuts. This is my favorite among the dishes I’ve tried. The chicken meat is tender. The Thai curry and coconut milk creates a creamy flavor that goes well with peanuts. A must try dish! ♡

image Vietnamese Pork Stewed in Honey and Herbs. Pork slices braised for hours seasoned with curry sauce, honey and herbs. This is actually a sweeter version of our pork binagoongan. The meat is soft and juicy. The spices blended well with the meat.

image Cantonese Barbequed Pork. Pork roasted in oven for hours then grilled and simmered with Chinese barbeque sauce with sesame seeds. The pork meat is super soft it actually melts in your mouth. A must try dish. Goes well with Chinese yeung chow fried rice.
image Chinese Meat Balls. Pork meat balls and cabbage simmered with Chinese soy sauce. The meat is tender but a little bland.

image Pork Sisig. Their version of pork sisig uses pork rind. I suggest they use a little amount of mayonnaise in this dish because it tends to overpower the rest of the spices used.

image Tofu Sisig. I like that they serve a healthier version of the pork sisig.

Vegetable Dishes:

image Chinese Styled Stir-Fried Vegetables. Mixed sliced fresh vegetables stir-fried with garlic, chili and chinese soy sauce. My second favorite dish. The vegetables are crunchy to bite. The mixture of chinese soy sauce, garlic and chili creates a unique burst of flavor. A must try dish.

Rice and Noodle Dishes:

image Chinese Yeung Chow Fried Rice. Chinese-style fried rice with roasted pork, vegetables and egg. Their yeung chow rice is kinda heavy in terms of ingredients. You can actually eat this on its own.

image Chinese Chow Mien. Stir-fried noodles with chicken, seafood and vegetables then they added home made broth. This dish is another bestseller. The noodle is not soggy and is packed with flavour.

Breakfast:

image Beef Tapa with Garlic Rice, Fried Egg and Atchara. Their tapa is home made and it has no preservatives. The meat has this sweet and salty taste that is just right. Their atchara is also good.

image Omellete with Toast. Their omelette is cooked according to your liking. It is served creamy with cheese and vegetables as filling or just plain. This is perfect to eat with coffee.

Drinks:

image Iced Cafe Latte.I love their cafe latte because it’s creamy and not too sweet and bitter. It has an appealing aroma that will give you an instant perk.

Desserts:

image
Thai Coco and Pandan Cooler. Coco and pandan jelly with sweetened coconut cream. The coconut cream goes well with pandan.

image
Cantonese Mango Pudding. Hong Kong style pudding with mango purèe. The cream is flavored with vanilla then set overnight to develop taste.

image Filipino Leche Flan. Steamed egg and milk custard. It’s super creamy. Sweetness level is just right.

image Malaysian Pandan Cream Pie. Pie filled with a layer of pandan custard and sweetened cream. Malaysian version of leche flan. This is my favorite among the desserts I’ve tried. The pandan custard is cooked just right. It’s firm and creamy. I’ll give double thumbs up for this dessert.

I will give Fika a rating of 4/5 because they serve good food at an affordable price. Thank you again Zomato Philippines for inviting me!

Foodie Review: Meet the Cuddly Cats of Cat Cafe Manila ♡

image

Hello dearies!

Pet themed cafe is getting popular here in the Philippines. Imagine you’re sipping a nice drink while being accompanied by a cute furry friend sounds fun right?!

image Cute cat image painted on the wall.

Last April 15, me and my friend Ana went to this cute cafe in Maginhawa Street. Cat Cafe Manila is owned by Ms. Ana Calvo and Mr. Denis Ty. They partnered with CARA Welfare Philippines (Compassion and Responsibility for Animals) with the purpose of educating their guests about responsible pet ownership. Aside from that they want to give importance on pet adoption rather than buying call that #Catvocacy. 🙂

image

Cat Cafe Manila serves as a home to 10 cute puspins (You’ll meet them as you read this post). These cats were vaccinated, spayed/neutered and ready to be adopted.

Before you visit Cat Cafe Manila a reservation is needed. You can reserve a slot thru Eventbrite website. Only 15 guests are allowed per hour. This is to maintain the amity in the cats’ home.

image Ticket from Eventbrite.

imageMs. Kat one of the CARA volunteer told us to read first the house rules to be guided.

image The waiver you need to sign before entering the cafe.

The reservation costs Php 200, 100 will go to CARA Welfare Philippines and the other 100 will be consumable for drinks and pastries.

The cafe is quite small but has a homey feel. Cats find comfort and security in small spaces. It is clean and has no trace of bad odor. They are actually strict in proper hygiene. You’ll be asked to sanitized your hands before and after contact with the cats.

image

image

image

image

image

Now let’s meet our furry friends 😄

image Upon entering Ling-Ling welcomed us. She got her name from the Filipino word “duling” which means cross-eyed. Despite of Ling-Ling’s condition she’s one of the sweet and adorable cats in the cafe.

image Ling-Ling wants to play with Sasha.

image The timid Trigger. His favorite hobby is to sleep.

image Domino wants to play with me. He was called Domino because of the black and white color of his fur.

image My friend Ana with Shelly.

image Nacho the uber playful cat. What a serious look Nacho?! 😄

imageBicco while playing with Nacho. They’re so cute. 😄

image Ms. Kat while hugging Chaka. She was named Chaka because of high-pitched sound of her meow.

image Why so serious Sasha? 😮

image Shelly cutie. 😄 Shelly is one of the friendly cats in the cafe. She loves to cuddle.

image Bicco and his blue paw-dicure. ♡

image Come down Oreo. 😄

imageHigh five Ling-Ling. ♡

We also tried some of their drinks and pastries.

image

image

I ordered their bestsellers paw-reo cheese shake and red velvet cookie while my friend Ana tried their hot tea and mini peanut cookie.

image

The red velvet cookie is big enough and it can be shared by two persons. It’s chewy and the sweetness is just right. I love the paw-reo cheese shake. It’s creamy and not that sweet. I was accompanied by Chaka while eating. 😄

image Me while reading a book. #BadCat

I had a great time bonding with these furry friends. I will definitely visit them again.

Visit Cat Cafe Manila now! They are located at 2nd floor #189 Maginhawa St. Cor. Makadios St. Sikatuna Village, Quezon City.

They are open from Tuesday to Sunday 12pm to 9pm.

#PerksOfABella Foodie Experience: The Coffee Bean And Tea Leaf ♡

image

Hello dearies!

Last May 27, I attended the #BloggersBash event of Skin 101 in Alabang Town Center. I came at the venue early so I decided to have lunch before heading to the event. As a frugal bella,  I always bring my BDJ coupons with me every time I’m going out. The BDJ coupons offers different “sulit” deals ranging from food, beauty and shopping. What I love about using these coupons is it helps me maximize my hard-earned money.

While walking around ATC, I saw The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf with that I decided to use one of my CBTL coupon. CBTL is one of my favorite coffee shops. I love their homey atmosphere. I always feel relax when I am there. Their staffs are friendly and acomodating.

I ordered Chef’s Tuna sandwich with a free slice of Chicago cheesecake.

imageMy Chef’s Tuna sandwich. This serving cost Php 205.

I was surprised how big the serving of the sandwich. It can be shared by two persons. I love that it has a lot of vegetables. The tuna meat is so juicy and flavourful. The vegetables are fresh and crunchy to bite.

image

The Chicago cheesecake that I got for free. I saved Php 125.

I love their cheesecake. It is creamy and the sweetness is just right.

I will definitely go back to CBTL to use my other coupons. I am eyeing to use the pasta coupon with free cookie. ♡

Thank you Belle de Jour Power Planner!

Till my next blog post! Thank you for reading my blog!

Foodie Review: Experience Classic Chinese Cuisine at Taza de Oro Food Garden

image

Hello dearies! Today I will be sharing with you my latest foodie adventure. I was invited again by the Zomato team for a lunch at Taza de Oro Food Garden in Greenhills.

image

The place reminds me of those Chinese restaurants that my family used to dine. The restaurant is a family owned business. According to Ms. Jennifer, it started its operation September of 2010. They serve classic Chinese and Singaporean dishes. The restaurant is divided into two areas: Taza de Oro proper and Tazamix which serves shabu shabu hot pot and grilled dishes.

image

The Zomato Team and my fellow foodie Neri while waiting for other bloggers.

image

Outside Tazamix

Aside from the restaurant they also sell some own-made frozen delights like tocino and longganisa. These are made without using extenders and preservatives. They also do catering services good for 200-300 persons with full set-up including tables and chairs.

image

Fresh fish and shrimps.

The food was good and the serving of the dishes is good for 3-5 persons. Here are the dishes that I tried.

image

Seafood Spinach Soup. The soup is made from mixed diced seafood. It’s tasty and perfect to sip during cold rainy days.

image

Mixed Cold Cuts. This dish serves as an appetizer. The meat is tasty and juicy.

image

Taza de Oro Fried Rice. Basic fried rice with a twist because they added Chinese sausage. Perfect to pair with the golden butter chicken.

image

Buttered Lapu-lapu fish fillet. I like the presentation of this dish. The fish meat is deeply fried until crispy. Served with two kinds of sauces the butter and sweet and sour sauce. For me this goes well with the butter sauce. The mango salsa serves as a taste neutralizer.

image

Buttered chicken. Their best seller and I must say its true! Chicken coated with flour, butter and some spices then deep fried. It is super flavourful. The meat is tender and juicy. A must try dish!

image

Braised Patatim with 12 pcs. Cuapao. The meat is cooked perfectly. It’s soft and it taste good. The taste is quite similar to pork asado. Perfect to eat with the cuapao.

image

Mixed Vegetable Foo Yong. An omelette dish. It consists of vegetables, seafood and meat. This dish is packed with flavour. This is also goes well with the fried rice.

image

Crispy Pansit Canton before pouring the sauce.

image

Crispy Pansit Canton with the sauce.

Pansit canton with a twist. This is actually served using a crispy pansit noodles. This is actually my first time to eat this kind of noodle dish. The sauce which consist of vegetables, meat and seafood goes well with the noodle. It’s fun to eat because you need to slice the noodles like pizza.

image

Mixed Seafood Broccoli. Fresh and crispy broccoli with mixed seafood like shrimps, sea cucumber and squid. It was my first time to try sea cucumber. I actually mistaken this as a mushroom. It’s slippery and soft to bite and it’s a bit salty.

image

Buchi and Halo-halo Turon.

One of the best buchi that I tried. Their buchi is crispy and not oily. The filling is so delicious. I find the halo-halo turon unique. It has banana, monggo and buko meat. I prefer buchi over this one.

image

Mango Sago. Made from fresh ripe mangoes, mango puree and sago. I love the sweet and tangy taste of this dessert.

Visit Taza de Oro now and try their delicious dishes. They are located at Madison Square, Madison Street Corner Ortigas Avenue, Greenhills, San Juan.

The First Zomato Food Crawl: Solaire Anniversary Edition

Hello dearies! Last March 3, I am lucky to be part of the bloggers who were invited on the first Zomato food crawl event. It was held at Solaire. Aside from their lavish and upscale resort and casino, Solaire also offers wide array of food choices to their guests.

What happened during the food crawl? Basically, we visited and tried the dishes included in the anniversary offering of the six restaurants in Solaire.

Caution: This blog post is a bit photo heavy and hunger inducing. 🙂 I know you’re excited so let’s get started.

First stop: Finestra

image

Upon entering Finestra, my eyes were amazed on how elegant its interiors. I love everything in it from the big beautiful chandeliers, regal chairs and stylish table wares.

image
The very regal interior of Finestra.

I was able to try their Saltimbocca Alla Sorrentina in which their Anniversary offering for Solaire. The dish is made from meat of young cattle (veal) drizzled with mozzarella cheese and topped with juicy cherry tomatoes. The dish has the distinct Italian flavor. The meat is soft and super juicy.

imageSaltimbocca Alla Sorrentina. Photo taken by yours truly.

Second stop: Waterside Restobar

image

Waterside Restobar is located in the newly opened Sky Tower of Solaire. It was called ‘waterside’ because it is literally located at the side of the beautiful pool of Solaire.

imageThe picturesque view of Solaire’s pool side.

image
The restaurant has a modern and elegant vibe. I love their sleek furnitures and table wares. They serve various dishes but their specialty is Latin American and Mediterranean cuisines.

I was able to try some of their famous dishes like their famous paella valenciana, surf and turf platter and some delicious side dishes.

image

Their paella valenciana is the bomb. The dish is consists of rice, meat, veggies, seafood and spices. It is so flavourful. The dish was served in a mini stainless casseroles which I find unique.

image My serving of paella valenciana.

image The delectable surf and turf platter.

The surf and turf platter is a must try. It consists of hanger steak, salmon, pork ribs and prawns. The hanger steak is packed with flavour. I love that it was cooked well done. The pork ribs is also good. If you’re into something sweet this dish is for you. My favorite is the salmon. It was juicy and packed with freshness. I can’t explain how good it is. The prawns were cooked perfectly.

imageL-R: Humita, Potato carbonara and Asparagus salad.

Aside from their two best sellers, I also love their side dishes. Their humita which is a sweet corn baked in a husk is something new to my taste buds. At first you’ll taste it sweet but as you eat more of it, it tends to be spicy. The potato carbonara is also good. It’s a deep fried potato cubes topped by carbonara sauce with bacon bits and some spices, super yummy! The Asparagus salad in white dressing is so refreshing to my taste buds. It goes well with the meat dishes. The mango salad is my favorite. The sweet-tangy taste of the mango fruit minimized the ‘suya’ factor in some of the dishes.

Third stop: Oasis Garden Cafe

image

After the luxurious dishes that we tried from Finestra and Waterside Restobar, we go straight to Oasis Garden Cafe to try some of their teas and desserts.

image

The cafe is located at the middle of the newly opened Sky Tower of Solaire Resorts and Casino. The cafe is natured inspired filled with lots of greens and a relaxing water fall back drop. I love the glass roof because it allows natural light to pass which gave the cafe a relaxing vibe.

image I love their table set-up.

image It’s so relaxing to look at this beautiful water fall back drop.

I was able to try three of their mouth-watering desserts and these are:

image Sugar rush galore! 🙂

image

Butterscotch macaron cake.

Layers of almond caramel filled with caramel and butterscotch parfait and roasted almonds. I find this cake the sweetest among the cakes we tried. It goes perfect with black coffee.

image

Blondies with roasted mango and avocado.

Glazed blondies with avocado panacotta and roasted fresh mango. I find this dessert unique because of the avocado panna cotta. It is lightly sweetened and the roasted mango gave a bittersweet twist to it.

image

Strawberry chiffon cake.

Red velvet cake, vanilla mascapone filling with fresh strawberries. This is my favorite among the three desserts. The fresh strawberries goes well with vanilla.

Aside from the cakes we were also able to try their teas. The earl grey tea is strong. It will you an instant perk me up mood. My favorite is their passion fruit green tea. I love the fruity smell of this tea, it’s invigorating.

If you are looking for a place to bond with your friends for an afternoon of desserts and tea without spending much and yet the place is beautiful this place is perfect.

Fourth Stop: Red Lantern

image

The restaurant has a nice interior. Their table ware is so posh and chic. I love the unique Chinese calligraphy painted on the clear glass walls. You will also see a huge Chinese floral arrangement at the entrance.

image Inside Red Lantern.

The manager of Red Lantern let us try their signature dish the Wuxi Braised Beef. “Wuxi” originated in Wuxi San Fong Bridge which is one of the oldest Chinese villages during the Qing dynasty. Wuxi braised beef was cooked using 3 firing methods: 1. Traditional method, 2. Taiwan method where in the meat is cooked by reducing its salinity and 3. Home cooking method where in the meat is cooked in a boiling water using 80 degrees of heat.

image

The dish is mouth-watering. The meat is so soft, it literally melts in your mouth. The veggies are half-cooked which I love because it’s crunchy. The red sauce which connotes success and prosperity blends well with the meat. The sweet and salty taste of the sauce is just right.

Fifth stop : Yakumi

image

Yakumi has a nice interior that is earthy and zen. I love the wooden interior design of the restaurant. It’s actually relaxing looking at the restaurant’s interior. When you go inside the restaurant, You have an option to sit by the bar or at the main dining room over-looking the beautiful view of Manila bay.

image Zen minimalist interiors of Yakumi.

image The scenic sunset of Manila Bay.

I tried Ehou maki which is their Anniversary offering for Solaire. Ehou maki means ‘lucky direction sushi roll’. Their Ehou maki is made for 7 ingredients which is said to be lucky in Japanese.

image Yummy Ehou Maki.

According to the Chef, to be able to have a good fortune a person should eat it as a whole facing at the lucky direction. It tasted so good. All the ingredients blended well together. It goes well with the freshly grated wasabi. The wasabi is authentic and packed with flavour.

image Authentic grated wasabi. It looks like “gabi” or taro but green. 😁

Sixth/Last stop: Strip Steakhouse

image

Strip emanates elegance and sophistication. From the glittery chandeliers, century old wines to the classy tables and chairs.

image Elegant interior of Strip.

image They have a numerous bottles of wines and liquors.

I was able to try their pastrami spiced black angus beef short ribs (Anniversary special offer). The Chef showed how it was prepared. He seasoned the angus beef meat with spices then let it marinated for 4 days. He also showed how to plate the steak.

image Chef while preparing the steak.

image The spices that were used in making the steak.

image Final product: Pastrami spiced black angus beef short ribs.

I like how juicy and tender the meat. You’ll taste the spices that he used. The mashed potato, grilled tomatoes and carrots compliment the steak. A red wine will complete the dish.

I had a great gastronomic adventure that day. Thank you Zomato team and Solaire for inviting me.

image Thank you token from Solaire: Limited Edition Solaire Swatch watch.

Till my next foodie adventure!

Foodie Review: Healthy Day

wpid-cymera_20150419_094242.jpg

Hello dearies! How’s your summer so far? I hope you’re all having a blast! Today I will update you of my current gastronomic adventure with Zomato.

Healthy lifestyle became more popular to Filipinos. I am happy that I found a place that serves healthy food choices that is not limited in serving only vegetables. Healthy day is a cafe, restaurant and spa in one located in Banawe, Quezon City. The owner of the restaurant is a doctor and she wanted to provide fresh and healthy food choices to their customers. Aside from different dishes they also offer a diet meal plan that is designed based on your preference minus the calories.

image

Reception/Cafe area.

image

The restaurant. I love the minimalist interior.

image

Healthy day spa entrance.

The restaurant has a relaxing vibe. Their theme is somewhat minimalist and earth-friendly. As you enter the restaurant, you’ll be greeted with warm smiles of their friendly staffs. Located near the cafe is their Urban Cultivator. Urban Cultivator is like an indoor garden. Seeds of herbs are placed inside the tray with water and the cultivator is set according to the desired temperature of the plant. It has day and night settings.

image

The Urban Cultivator with some of the seeds and sprouts.

The owner let us try some of their best sellers. Mind you its plenty. First on the list are their drinks.

wpid-cymera_20150419_095412.jpg

Caramel Nutty Chilla. Cold brewing method was used in preparing this drink. This method lessens the acidity level of the coffee. This drink has a nutty flavour and has a light caramel after taste.

image

Oatmeal Mocha Chilla. Made from rolled oats. Its creamy and not that sweet.

image

Berry delight. Made from reduced yogurt, blueberry and strawberry puree. This drink tasted like ” dutch mill” a brand of flavored yogurt milk. It’s sweet and creamy minus the guilt of calories.

image

Stress buster juice. Made from carrots, celery and pineapple. Slow juicing method was used. This drink will give you an instant ‘perk-up’ mood.

image

Go go juice. Made from spinach, orange and pineapple. This juice serves as an appetite stimulant.

Lemon Matcha tea. This is my favorite among the drinks. Lemon and matcha goes well together. You can taste the matcha. Sorry I wasn’t able to take a photo of it because I was busy eating hihi.

Let’s go now to the starters:

image

Healthy day salad. It has fresh lettuce, tomatoes, chicken, olives and carrots. It is topped with bread crumbs and croutons. The dressing is made from balsamic vinegar and tartar sauce. What I like about the salad is the vegetables are fresh and crunchy. It goes well with the semi sweet to tangy flavor of the dressing.

image

Kani roll. My favorite among the appetizers. It has lettuce, cucumber, crab sticks and mango slices. The dressing is made from japanese mayo with mango dressing wrapped using rice wrapper. It’s refreshing to the taste buds.

image

Tomato mozzarella salad – I find this dish innovative. The tomato is stuffed with bread crumbs dressed with pesto. The stuffed tomato is topped with mozzarella then baked. The flavour of tomato goes well with the cheese and pesto. Because its baked, the pesto sauce is not oily.

image

Roasted asparagus and bell pepper aglio e olio. Spaghetti pasta sautèed in garlic oil was used in this dish. It has a strong flavour maybe because of garlic and olive oil. The pasta was cooked al dente. The only problem is that I find the roasted asparagus bitter.

image

Spinach pumpkin carbonara with salmon. When I saw this one it reminds me of our local dish palabok because of the pumpkin sauce. I like this one than the other because I am into creamy pasta. The pumpkin sauce is packed with flavour. It goes well with salmon.

Here are the main course dishes:

image

Chicken roulade with wild mushroom risotto – This dish consists of rolled chicken with a filling of blanched vegetables that is marinated in red wine. The chicken meat is tender and juicy. I find the sticky rice a bit bitter maybe because of the wine content.

Chicken salpicao with garlic brown rice. One of my favorites. The garlic rice is so flavourful. The chicken is cooked in olive oil and garlic. Yummers!

image

Dill crusted salmon with carrot potato mash. The salmon is a bit dry because they used the lean part and was cooked by baking method. You can taste the freshness of the fish. The potato mash is something new. It has carrots bits. The honey dipped sauce goes well with salmon.

image

Pork risotto – The pork meat that they used is defatted. The meat is kinda hard to chew but the risotto rice with pumpkin sauce is the bomb. This is actually my second favorite among the main course dishes.

image

Fillet mignon with garlic potato mash – The finest beef tenderloin cuts grilled according to your preference. You can have it rare, medium rare to done. The one that served to us was medium rare. The meat is tender and juicy. The garlic potato mash goes well with the gravy sauce.

Lastly desserts was served. The chef let us try two of their new desserts.

Oatmeal Crusted Mango Cucumber Cheesecake Soufflé – Rolled oats with crushed oreo cookie was used in preparing the crust. The cheese cake part is like a pudding because it uses yogurt. Mango and cucumber gives a burst of flavor. The sweet-tangy taste of mango goes well with the crisp and freshness of cucumber.

Oatmeal Crusted Strawberry Cheesecake Soufflé – Just like the first one, rolled oats was used in making the crust. The cheesecake of this one is sweeter and creamier because it uses blueberry puree. The fresh strawberry toppings is so good.

Overall I will give Healthy day 4.0 because they serve delicious and yet healthy meals. Price is on the average.

What’s New with DQ: Loacker Blizzards

Hello sweeties! I am back again to give you a foodie review. Last February 5, Dairy Queen Philippines launched their new blizzard of the month which is the Loacker Blizzard. It was held at Dairy Queen Level 3 in Gateway Mall in Cubao, Quezon City.

Meet DQ’s Blizzard of the Month: Strawberry Loacker, Chocolate Loacker and Vanilla Loacker.

Strawberry Loacker. Among the three flavors this is my favorite. The strawberry ice cream is not that sweet and it blended well the semi-sweet, bite sized Loacker wafers creating a unique and distinct flavor.

Vanilla Loacker. The vanilla ice cream goes well with the Loacker wafers. You can taste the hazelnut flavor of the wafer with this flavor.

Chocolate Loacker. Iam sure this will be a big hit among people who are chocolate lovers.

Aside from the Loacker Blizzards, Dairy Queen also let us try their Valentines ice cream cakes. This serves as a gift to Elaine because it’s her birthday! 🙂

Oreo ice cream cake. This one is so good. I love the cookies and cream ice cream topped with strawberry icing with choco syrup plus the oreo cookie topping. #Yummy

Strawberry Kitkat ice cream cake is love ♥

Overall I will rate Dairy Queen’s ice cream 4/5. Their new Loacker Blizzard especially the strawberry flavor is a hit for me.

Thank you Dairy Queen and Zomato for inviting me in this super fun event!
